WI: The powers of ww1 had today's weaponry

Who would win if each side had modern day weaponry? (not limited to what a certain country produced meaning Germans can have American tech and vice versa)

The war would be very different as it would be a lot more like WW2 rather than WW1 because of tanks and fighter jets which prevent stalemate.

How aware are the sides of the power of nukes? There presence may stop a face to face fight but still allow proxy wars

No, they still have their territory the way it was during ww1. They just have modern tech.
Do they have the industry needed to produce more equipment/weapons/ammunition? Are the militaries of each nation somewhat disposed like they were back in WWI? IOW Britain as the largest naval power, the US with massive industry but a tiny army, etc.

Their industries get an upgrade.
The army sizes each nation had at the time stays the same at the original start.
Militaries are somewhat disposed.

Japan and the Ottomans may beg to differ?

What is meant by powers? If it includes all belligerents the world is toast.

Turkey I grant, but with modern borders Japan is in no danger. But the scenario has already ruled out modern borders, so there will be a Far East theatre.

On the central powers side there's no nuclear power.

Though if you recreate the old borders Turkey/Ottomans ends up with Israels nuclear arsena.

OP stated all side have each others tech.

Best possibility except for Serbia is war ends on July 28 after Austria-Hungary launch missiles against Serbia.
Giving nukes to any of the WWI participants is like like letting a 3 year old play with a hand grenade.

Just like how the cold war went. Proxies but not face to face if we upping the knowledge of nukes here.

There is no war.

Nuclear weapons are amazingly calming in that regard.

We're talking about the same generals and world leaders who sent conscripts against machine guns and artillery armed only with rifles and elan. And Germany doesn't have nuclear weapons. Germany gets nuked. Whatever remains of Germany gets looted by the French. In Russia, the Czar continues to rule. Maybe Austria gets nuked, just in case. The Ottoman Empire doesn't dare to join the fray after the fall of Germany.

If we remove nuclear weapons (do we also remove chemical weapons?) well, WWI generals didn't really know how to use 1914 weapons, so why should they know how to use 2016 weapons? Someone should realize modern armor fills a similar niche as heavy cavalry (hard hitting, fast, lay waste to untrained ill-equipped infantry), so I'm guessing we'd see an improvised modern Blitzkrieg that gets defeated once the attacking side outruns their non mobile Sam sites and gets pounded by the enemy Air Force. Maybe something like the Yom Kipur war but with the counterattack failing to secure victory because generals and politicians are improvising?

You can choose whether to keep nukes in your scenario. Chemical weapons aren't removed though. And keep in my mind I stated each side has their own and the other sides modern weaponry so techinically Germany can have nukes. But if you want to be more realistic, you can have the allies be the only side with nukes.
