The Peculiar by Stefan Bachmann

This is a relatively new fantasy novel (2012) which I recently discovered. It's about the fairy world invading our world - Britain, to be precise - beaten back, but all kinds of non-humans stay in our world. The result is a mix of steampunk, clockpunk and fantasypunk. They're an exploited minority, humans with fairy ancestors are outsiders in society, but all in all they're kind of integrated - trolls and giants work in British factories and thus helped fighting off Napoleon - and hold down the American colonials. Which is why I can post it here.

Note: Stefan Bachmann is a Swiss/American who lives in Switzerland and was homeschooled by his mother. He wrote this book when he was 19. In case Eragon haters read this post: This book is better. Much better. Not on the level of PTerry, but definitely a new kind of fantasy. Makes a very good read.
