Q: Attempts to reunify the Mongol Empire

The Mongol Empire was one of the largest empires in history. Stretching from Asia to Europe. However, the empire divided, becoming four Khaganates, which in turn disintegrated into smaller nations.

The question is, were there any attempts to reunify the Mongol Empire, serious or even thought of?

And if so, what Time would it had been possibly or tried, and who had these ambitions?

I thought that was what Tamerlane tried?

I feel that with the exception of the steppes, all the Mongol regions had more ingrained identities which would provide more legitimacy. Thus, with the Mongols integrating or regarded as outsiders, not much would happen for that aside from actual claimants.
