DBWI: The Balkan Federation survives.

As the title says, is there a way to preserve the Balkan Federation to the present day?

After Tito died, The Federation was in turmoil, with the Bulgarians & Serbians jockeying for control of the Federation while other groups such as the Albanians, Croatians, Etc., started to cry out for autonomy.

As we all know, this all resulted in kickstarting the Balkan Wars in the 1990’s, only to cultimate in ‘99 with the NATO bombing of Serbia.

Is there any way to save the Federation?
Discuss.

(OOC: The “Balkan Federation” is comprised of OTL’s Yugoslavia, Bulgaria & Albania. It came into being as a result of a lucky Tito after WW2.)

What's the acceptable POD? Post-Tito, this would be life ASB, but if he starts grooming a successor sometime before the dementia starts showing. I'd say sometime in the mid-70's, where he has some temporary breathing room during the decade of Detente and a few indisputably clear minded years left, though you may be able to get by with a sane selection as late as 87' if you can get the army to fully get behind this leader and be willing to enforce semi-martial law in the first few years.

The candidate couldent be overly dependant on the Serbian or Bulgarian state politicians for his power base, of course. Bejedic would be a great option given his national profile and Bosniak origins, if he weren't already so old. Even Izetbegovic could get a senior citizen discount by the time Toto finally croaks, and he was one of the youngest of the Party big wigs...

Are there any good Bosniak or Croat leaders born in the 50s you could tap? None are coming to mind, and I'm skeptical about the pool of Albanians
