Canada Suspends Diplomatic Relations with Cuba during Cold War

Re-posting this topic:

IOTL, when the US suspended diplomatic relations with the Cuban government under Fidel Castro in 1960 and placed an embargo on it, Canada, usually a staunch US ally in international relations, notably refused to join the US under its Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. In fact, Canada was just one of two countries in the Western Hemisphere, along with Mexico, to have never broken off any diplomatic relations with Cuba during the Cold War.

Is there any way to get Canada to be more aligned with the US on Cuba?

Change Kennedy opinion/attitude toward Diefenbaker, not only was he antipathetic toward him, but also bullishly challenged him on trade issues, started DEFCON during the Cuban Crisis without any warnings toward the Canadian (which where an integral part of NORAD). All these blunders led Diefenbaker to disregard Kennedy's policy toward Cuba on a pure antagonistic move.
