Bull's-Eyes and Misfires

Bull's-Eyes and Misfires: 50 People whose obscure efforts shaped the American Civil War by Clint Johnson

This is more an Alternative History resource. Fifty short chapters on figures, both North and South, that played some minor - tho in a few cases pivotal - parts in the ACW. From the few entries I've read so far I can come up with some interesting PODs.

1. WI Union Major William Barry had not mistaken Confederate forces in blue at Bull Run for Union troops. It was the heat of battle and this one mistake kept a Union artillery battery from firing down the ranks of Confederate troops that weren't paying attention to them. WI Jackson had been killed in the opening battle?

2. Union General Don Carlos Buell didn't play politics - but it was he that saved U.S. Grant from defeat at Shiloh. It had also been Buell that had gone down to Charleston before the outbreak of the war and advised that Major Anderson that he withdraw his troops from the surrounding forts to Fort Sumter. WI it was Buell that was recognized for the victory at Shiloh?

Looks like it will be informative.
