Alternatives to Salmon P. Chase

I don't want Salmon P Chase to get nominated to the Supreme Court by Lincoln. Can anyone come up with some alternative appointments for Lincoln? It doesn't have to be to directly replace Taney as Chief Justice as Lincoln can always promote from within (say David Davis).

Any ideas?

Or maybe Ben Butler. Lincoln asked (or at least considered) Butler if he'd be interested in being his Vice-President, and Butler was if anything a shrewd man, one example being his contraband of war idea involving slaves.

David Davis to Chief and James Speed for associate is surely what Lincoln wants, but let's assume Lincoln doesn't get everything he wants.

Joseph Holt is the next logical choice, but if I'm not mistaken you have another plan for him. That being the case, consider William McKee Dunn.
