-1896-1900 North Carolina gubernatorial elections and insurrection
-Expansion of Suffrage, 1808-1900
-191(?, needs an update) Presidential election
__________________________________________________

South Carolina is often cited as first state in the nation for suffrage (having passed legislation a few months before Mississippi, and with Wyoming and the Dakotas only later actually attaining statehood). This is not entirely correct - it was the first state to offer full suffrage, but the state of New Jersey had actually offered unmarried women the right to vote if they met certain property requirements. This right was removed, however, in 1807 (with legislation that also removed the right of Black people to vote in the state)

At any rate, the women's suffrage movement in the US saw significant advances in the latter half of the 1800s. Early advocates for women's rights wrote centuries earlier, Wollstonecraft's writings were a significant milestone in the English-speaking world (though she was not the first advocate, even there), and the women's rights and suffrage movements in the US saw an acceleration of mass activism in the first half of the 1800s with moments like the Seneca Falls Convention (with women's activism often, though not always, also being closely connected to the abolitionist movement). 1838 saw Kentucky become the first state to offer women any sort of suffrage, with a law that allowed women to vote in elections for school boards, if they were head-of-household (Kentucky would later pass a law rescinding this right to vote). But no state saw general expansion of suffrage to all women until after the Civil War

The assassination of Lincoln, Johnson, Foster, and Seward [see endnote] by Booth and his accomplices in 1865 gave a massive boost of energy and support to the Radical faction of the Republicans, who threw away Lincoln's somewhat lenient plan of Reconstruction and aggressively implemented their own 'Radical Reconstruction'. Radical Reconstruction tended to focus primarily on matters like Black voting and civil rights as well as various economic reforms, but some among the Radical faction also supported women's suffrage, and in the lead-up to the 1869 election, South Carolina and Mississippi (the most Radical two states in the south) enacted full women's suffrage. In the same year, the territorial governments in Wyoming and the Dakotas also enacted full suffrage. Michigan was the next state to expand full suffrage, in 1874 (enabled in part due to the state's Democratic Party essentially collapsing for several years, giving Radicals an opening there), and Louisiana came next in 1882, with its politics having been on the more Radical end of the spectrum in the south and having shifted further to align with MS and SC once it ended up as one of just three states to retain Reconstruction governments after the withdrawal of Federal support for Reconstruction. Over the next 16 years, a number of additional states would expand suffrage, primarily on the west coast and great plains (with that area seeing relative early adoption of full suffrage for a number of probable but not entirely certain reasons). North Carolina would be the final state to expand full suffrage before the turn of the century

The women's suffrage movement saw initial successes with a state-by-state strategy which sought full suffrage but also accepted compromises where available. As the movement gathered strength and momentum, however, calls for full suffrage nationwide grew. The 1900s and 1910s saw the expansion of suffrage in various states, as well as a movement to amend the constitution, granting the right for suffrage across the nation. With Vermont and Sequoyah's ratification, the right to vote regardless of sex became enshrined in the Constitution as the 18th amendment

(The below map shows the dates of states achieving full suffrage - with the parenthetical numbers showing date of statehood, in cases where states achieved full suffrage prior to actual statehood - up to 1900)

(The main map here is a modified version of this historical map, now being a decade and a half earlier. The second is a modified and simplified version of this map.)

(Also apparently the guy who was third in line for the Presidency after Lincoln and Johnson was a Republican who was moderate/conservative and maybe switched to being a Democrat in 1866 - his wikipedia page says such, but the 1866 senate elections page shows the CT senate election as an R vs R race, so idk - and the fourth in line was the more Radical Schuyler Colfax, so, fuck it, Booth and co's plot in this TL is not only so effective it gets Johnson but it also happens to take out Lafayette too, and Colfax becomes President)

Nice. (I'm curious about mega-Peru(?))
On, Mega Peru aka the United states of the Andes; I really felt the need to reward the south Americans after a long period of heroic fighting, and so didn't allow all the attempts at keeping the Spanish SA colonies united to fail completely. To make a long story short; after a very long series of wars between Britain led coalitions and the Franco-Spanish alliance in the early 19th; the newly minted French constitutional regime makes a separate peace (status quo ante) w/ Britain and allows them to complete the collapse of the Spanish empire. While technically Britain grows in this last series of wars; the victory is Pyrric; having fought itself to total exhaustion, losing all influence on the continent, and allowing the ex-Spanish colonies to fall into the french sphere of influence. Amazon region is seized from Portugal later in 19th C, borders are mainly hydrological.

Zohnatlâk Confederation

Quick scenario where there's a Switzerland-like confederacy on the mountains between India, Myanmar, and China. It's based on the Chin-Kuki-Mizo people, who also go by the names Zo, Zomi, Kuki, Zohnatlak etc. The flag is based on the Kuki People's Alliance party seal, no deep meaning.

Virtually no Chin land is in this state. Yes, related peoples are, but not the Chin/Mizo evidently.

Naing Myo Thawda, born Vsevolod, was a Russian missionary, politician, archbishop and crusader, best known as the ruler of the Kingdom of Mranma.

His life prior to his missions in the Far East is diffuse and widely disputed, but according to the Holy Book of the East, he was born of a humble family in the southwestern Russian principalities and fought in the Seventh Crusade at a young age.
During his sojourn in various cities in the Near East, he would convert to Nestorianism after discovering that his family died in the Black Autumn, and over the next few years he became a religious speaker in Asia.

Facing various persecutions, as well as an unhappy life and the horrors of war, Vsevolod went mad at some point in his life, and according to testimonies of his relatives and political associates, he constantly scratched himself, talked to himself in a disturbing manner, was delirious and extremely impulsive. Because of this, he travelled to "save those who are in search of God". Apparently, he looked for opportunities in India and China, usually without success, but once he arrived in Myanmar everything began to change.

The region was quite divided, and the kingdoms were usually run by greedy and ineffective people. Because of this, several rebellions began to follow throughout the countryside, which were supported by Vsevolod himself. This enabled him to gain power among the peasantry, so much so that at the Battle of Rangoon, he was crowned as the new king of Pinya.

His nine years of rule were an atypical time for any country, being that he was from a distant village, had a different religion and was regarded as unhinged.
During his reign, there were several wars against neighboring kingdoms, and he imposed heavy tribute on his vassals. Vsevolod was strict in his vision of a new Myanmar, seeking to rise above the nobles, militarizing the nation and Christianizing the Burmese people.
Even so, Myanmar began to be powerful and prosperous, with a development that the next kings would envy, as the kingdom expanded and the preaching of compassion and generosity was extensive, developing a culture of mutual support that many sociologists have identified in later times.

Today, Vsevolod is referred to by the name he used as King of Mranma, Naing Myo Thawda, and held in high esteem by the Burmese people because of his exceptional ability to rule and his military victories, so much so that various parties of all positions in today's republic have referenced him in their iconography, even if his Kingdom fell because of the incompetence of his descendants.

Despair, you corrupt souls! The fury of the wretched has knocked at your gates, and you have no alternative but to listen to us if you do not want to perish!
- Vsevolod.

(If you want to know, Vsevolod is supposed to have PTSD.)

1. They also asked the US, but the US didn't want them.
2. Texas, after unification with the Confederacy fell through, needed to boost their manpower to hold at bay (and, hopefully, expand against) the Mexicans: they were welcoming to immigrants and not too picky as to where they came from. As a result, Texas became another major destination of Italian immigrants, along with the US and Argentina.

OK, sort of? With further expansion stymied after the 1890s and increasing foreign hostility (and trade embargoes) the Confederacy finally discontinued slavery in 1919 (incidentally causing the South Carolina and Florida Rebellions), although they replaced it with some Black Codes that made our Jim Crow looked mild. Blacks, "Afro-Latins" [1], and Amerindians finally got full civil and electoral rights in the late 1980s, when enough of them had immigrated to the US, Texas and New Albion that the whites could feel confident in maintaining control of the government. Nowadays racial attitudes are a few decades behind the OTL US, but on the other hand there isn't a current White Nationalist resurgence.

[1] Lighter-skinned Hispanics have been assimilated into the "white" category.

Great map, not only for the unique scenario but for the particularly pleasing color palette you chose.

Is New Albion the original English claimed area with an actual settler base, or a British Rupert's Land* wank?

Virtually no Chin land is in this state. Yes, related peoples are, but not the Chin/Mizo evidently.

The country is centred on Manipur, with the idea being the Kuki and Naga at some point took control of the valley. Either through British or Chinese backing, they expanded. That said I know very very little about the area and the people.

I intended for it to be a super decentralised multiethnic state, much like Switzerland.

Yeah no the Meitei and Hill tribes hate each other. They there's an ongoing outbreak of riots since just last month which has displaced 70,000+ and forced the army in to keep the peace.
I mean, sure, but this is alternate history. Ethnic squabbling could be accounted for — just off hand, if a domineering foreign power barges into the area and attempts to impose their language, culture and way of life on the locals, “enemy of my enemy” could work to force a peaceful coexistence if the hostility to the foreign power lasts long enough.

Love it. Recalls the excellent @vongreif scenario "Ein Thausend Jahr", though not as extensive or horrific.
Could you tell me where I could read it? I can't find it anywhere.

One must wonder if there is any truth to the idea that the bourgeoise will return to the earth... the wild west corporate colonies of the Jovian Moons, perhaps.
For the moment I don't think I'll be able to answer that question.
What is certain is that there are humans roaming around part of the solar system, but the Collectivity is still the best-organised known organisation to date.

Nightmare Ocean
In the same setting as my previous post and similarly in an an 'authentic' style

The conceit here is that this map would be a stripped down reproduction of a higher quality map, as an illustration in a memoir or something.

Actually explaining the Alt-History this time; the scenario is one in which the American revolutionary war plays out differently and the Franco-Spanish armada of 1779 successfully invades Great Britain. The result is that the ARW ends without any major patriot victories, and with New France substantially restored.
Here is the scenario taken to 1901 where the German majority in northern Louisiana ( "Missuouri" ) are a fighting guerilla war for their independence in a massively scaled up equivalent of OTL's the 2nd Boer war,

Fantastic, but I do not believe the land borders in the Arctic islands or Antarctica were fully known in 1899, due to the ice.
Another silly random one: in which I both break up the US and wank it at the same time. (The US owes a lot to @TapReflex 's own version of that game.)

I am going to guess the Amazon ends up as some giant wildlife preserve (at least in parts) to be used solely by North American tourists who want to explore the jungles without too many large animals or natives interfering with their safety or comfort/world views.

Welp farewell XXI, you done good. I'm hoping to start the next one to try and bring back my 2020 glory days but idk
With any luck we don’t have people scrambling over each other to kick the door in early this time. It always seemed a bit... Well, let’s just say it doesn’t call for the most respect.
Ahhh, where did you find this? It seems like the whole thing would be fascinating.

An alt-1848 leads to Franz Joseph granting Venetia-Lomabrdy to the Tuscan branch of the family. The Este branch still goes extinct and the Emperor passes Modena to the Tuscan branch as well. They eventually reunite Italy in an alt-1867 and go on to join their Austrian cousins in Balkan adventures and even become a colonial power.
The ahhh, the simplicity of the Greek flag in a whole, versus the canton in the corner.

WHITE SUN OVER ASIA

Government

Nominally, the Chinese Confederation is a federal republic, not unlike the United States. In reality, the country is a one-party dictatorship with almost every branch of government controlled by the military, including the KMT.
Between the province/municipalities and the federal government are the general-governorates, a supposedly non-political institution belonging to the army, in charge to keep order in the border provinces. However these general-governors have authority over the provincial governors themselves, being able to unilaterally decide policies for provinces ignoring the governors, and even to "retire" them, if they show signs of rebelliousness.

=======================================

Demographics

In contrast to the People's Republic of China, the new Chinese Confederation makes no concessions to the ethnic minorities. The policy on minorities varies on the province and the general-governorate, from a simple forced linguistic assimilation to full-on "racial hygiene" laws that determine a person's access to basic amenities and facilities according to their percent of Chinese blood. Ever since the conquest of lands west and north, natives have been forced off their lands, or in many cases it was "purchased". These lands were settled by overseas Chinese, who returned to the Mainland from Nusantara and other countries through China-sponsored immigration campaigns, encouraged by the governments themselves. New provinces can only be created if there can be proven the ethnic Han population will be at least 15% of the province's. Segregation and discrimination is a fact of everyday life, especially in the areas with large minority demographics.

=======================================

Economy

China's economy heavily relies on state-sponsored family-run megacorporations, called Ch'aimen. Ever since the civil war, the army and business have a close relationship, with there being no central government, growing business would bribe officers to protect their interests. This carried over to now, where corruption is rampant throughout the military and government, with large companies being given lucrative contracts in exchange for financial backing. Economic and labor regulations are almost non-existent, because of just how powerful these Ch'aimen are. Even then, the state's support of these companies has supercharged China's economic and technological growth from a devastated country to the world's top economy.

=======================================

Foreign Relations

China's position as the premier hegemon is not without challenge. Their primary geopolitical opponent is the Imperial League, an alliance of former British colonies and dominions. After the tumultuous World War 3, the former friends turned on each other overtime due to China's aggressive posturing during its rise to global dominance. China's natural allies are the various Asian countries, including the Republic of Nusantara to its south, its closest ally. The country positions itself as the protector of Asia against the Western predators, not unlike the Pan-Asianism of Japan before, whose country now China has a complicated relationship. Outside Asia, China is close friends with the European Union State.
Out of curiosity, why do six or seven regions under military control not have the wheels showing the population breakdown?
