Trying to Please Everyone: Or Converting multiple Pop Culture Utopias into a Timeline.

Cool! Would this be the end of the franchise, or would there be more?
There would be more but in a different form since ITTL Toriyama wanted to take a break just as OTL. There may be another installment sometime later on similar to the Dragonball Renaissance but that was triggered by Toriyama's dissatisfaction with the live action Dragonball: Evolution, which could be butterflied away for a few reasons. One is it came about when 20th Century Fox gained the rights to Dragonball in 2002 and also its release of 2009 would coincide close to when TTL does Jump World which is a massive crossover of Shonen Jump's properties and with Cinematic Universes in general being more common ITTL(Just last year in 2008, George Miller's Justice League Movie would have come out), they'd want to possibly do a cinematic universe of their. There's also plans to do a DragonMan/DC Crossover where Planet Vegeta and Planet Krypton switch universes, following Superman in the DragonMan Universe and Tangtong and then Goku in the DC Universe titled Dragon SuperMan and Super DragonMan respectively.

Cool! However, how does this crossover happem?

What happens to the following movies ITTL?
  • Wayne's World (1992)
  • Gremlins (1984)
  • Pulp Fiction (1994)
  • Zoolander (2001)
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
My bad if any of these have already been covered, might have missed an entry or two.

What happens to the following movies ITTL?
  • Wayne's World (1992)
Still exists ITTL but with the notable difference being there's a sequel with Director Penelope Spheeris returning(OTL its believed Myers complained about her and got her fired).
  • Gremlins (1984)
Tentatively kept the same as OTl along with the sequel. Considered making Tim Burton the director but doing so would butterfly the sequel, which I see as too insane to butterfly.
  • Pulp Fiction (1994)
Not made by the Weinstein Company but largely same as OTL minus different release date and the Sequel Vega Brothers film existing.
  • Zoolander (2001)
Currently intact but with Andy Dick as Mugatu. Neither Zoolander 2 or the animated show exist.
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Directed by Terry Gilliam. Starring Harrison Ford as Eddie Valiant(He never played Indiana Jones ITTL that going to Tom Selleck), Paul Reubens as Roger Rabbit and Tim Curry as Judge Doom. A few other characters like Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Mighty Mouse and Fleischer Superman appear due to the inclusion of an OTL deleted scene. An Animated Series was made as a sequel.

Here are some questions:

- Do Nintendo and other companies have infamous reputations regarding issuing copyright claims?
- What is the state of the public domain as of 2024?
- Anything different about Steamboat Willie and other early Disney cartoons from the 1920s?
- Anything of note related to Bollywood and Indian culture? One that I can think of is that RRR is released earlier in 2020 instead of 2022 due to Covid-19 not being as bad ITTL.
- Anything different relying to Fanfiction? Espcially regarding fanfic websites like Fanfiction.net, Archive of Our Own, Wattpad, Quotev, etc.

Not ITTL. They are much more acceptive of fan content and games.
- What is the state of the public domain as of 2024?
Disney didn’t keep pushing the law back so a few things went into public domain earlier.
- Anything different about Steamboat Willie and other early Disney cartoons from the 1920s?
Called Steamboat Mickey ITTL. Walt Disney living until 1994 meant the copyright was renewed. Of course Disney is less likely to sue you if you do use the character.

Aside from the earlier release not much currently planned.

There’s a specific website used for the more…extreme NSFW stuff. From what I’ve seen Wattpad tends to have more quick stories, suggesting younger writers. This being a more idealized timeline most fan fiction would be a lot better written. Later on AI would probably see a lot of use as ITTL it’s slightly better. For example ITTL if you ask it a “What if?” Question regarding a fictional franchise it will try and go through the series keeping the change in mind, but when it hits a “everybody dies” it will try to keep the story going by having at least one person survive and try to avenge the others. It will do things like “in the canonical version these two characters becoming romantically involved is highly unlikely without fundamentally changing one or more of their personalities(or they exist in separate franchises) As such we will first look at the traits their canonical love interests have and speculate on how the setting would change as a result of the different personalities.”

What? That's the fate of the Weinsteins? How does that make sense?
OTL according to Quentin Tarantino lore, Michael Madsen’s character in Reservoir Dogs(Vic Vega) and John Travolta’s character in Pulp Fiction(Vincent Vega) are brothers. He planned to make a prequel starring both actors but waited too long and they both got too old to convincingly play younger versions of themselves as both die in their respective films and the movie was a prequel. Nothing to do with the Weinsteins, though they get discredited around 1997 or so due to the scandals or Harvey Weinstein coming out earlier.

Good to know!

Great stuff! Any exact dates or is that still to be decided? IOTL 1928 stuff got in in 2024 IIRC, so maybe it’s pushed up to 1938 or even 1948 ITTL? Meaning a lot more stuff from the 1930s and 1940s will be in the public domain ITTL if that is indeed the case.

Yeah that does make sense.

Have you heard about “The Vanishing of S.S. Willie”? It’s an analog horror mockumentary short film released onto YouTube this month, sorta in the same vein to the Man in the Suit series, with it being about a dark but creative take on the events of Steamboat Willie.

Aside from the earlier release not much currently planned.
That’s understandable. In Blue Skies in Camelot there is a flourishing of Indian culture such as films and music onto the global scene beginning in the 1980s in that timeline, so maybe that could happen ITTL also.

All of this is great and cool to read! Thanks!

The original copyright was 28 years after. So worked released from 1920 to 1929 would go into public domain between 1948 and 1957 with the option for the copyright holder to renew once, pushing it to between 1976 to 1985.

Yes I've seen it.

Possibly especially if Ghandi not being assassinated butterflies away Indira Ghandi's state of Emergency, which did impact several films at the time.

Would it use the original script? It got far enough into pre-production for there to be sets built, but unbeknownst to Myers, the studio didn't get the rights to base it on Passport to Pimlico and had to redo things from scratch in order to meet the Christmas '93 deadline.

Something akin to it but I feel Spheeris would rewrite it to be distinctive enough.
