As of now there's been three vice presidents with the surname Johnson; Richard Mentor Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Lyndon Baines Johnson (no relation with any of them). Two out of the three became president, and in a coincidence under the same circumstances. Of course, Richard is the most forgotten Johnson. So here's a question? What would it do to make him president, either on his own merit or something bad happening to Martin Van Buren. The most obvious change would be if his relationship with Julia Chinn never happened, as that was a major scandal that weighed him down. With that in mind, if he managed to push for presidency some time in the 1830s what's his best route for power and how might he differ from the policies of a Jackson or a Van Buren? If we keep that relationship you'd have to try for him being president on his own terms, but say something bad happens to Van Buren. What would have to happen so he could solidify himself as president outright and not get the shellacking OTL John Tyler did?
